You're not behind. You just haven't started.
Every catch-up-on-AI account hands you forty-seven tools and tells you to figure it out. Skip that. There's one tool you probably already have on your phone and one five-minute habit that actually moves you forward. That's the whole starting line, plus three real questions to try today.
- The one tool: which AI chat app to open first, even if you already have more than one
- The one habit: one real question a day, in your own words, about whatever's actually on your plate
- Three worked examples to copy today: planning tomorrow, understanding a confusing bill, and answering an email you've been avoiding
- The one line to use on day one, when you don't know what to ask yet
Copy these and try one today
Plain conversational prompts, no special settings and no paid plan required. They work on ChatGPT's free tier and Claude's free tier, both apps are free to download on iOS and Android as of Aug 10, 2026 (sources in the appendix). Swap the bracketed part for your actual situation, that's the whole habit.
Plan tomorrow
Here's what's actually on my plate tomorrow: [list your real meetings, errands, and deadlines]. Help me figure out what order to do them in, and tell me if I'm forgetting something obvious.
This is the first example from the video. Use your real day, not a made-up one, that's what makes the answer actually useful.
Explain a confusing bill
I'm looking at a bill or statement and I don't understand [the charge / the total / why it changed]. Here's what it says: [paste or describe the confusing part]. Explain it to me like I've never seen one of these before, and flag anything that looks worth questioning.
Works on medical bills, utility statements, insurance notices, anything with line items you can't decode on your own.
Answer this email
I got this email and I'm not sure how to respond: [paste the email]. Here's roughly what I want to say, unpolished: [your rough version]. Clean it up, but keep it sounding like me, not like a form letter.
The point isn't a perfect reply. It's not staring at a blank box for twenty minutes.
When you don't know what to ask
I don't have a specific question yet, just this: [describe what's going on in a sentence or two]. Ask me a few questions first so we can figure out what I actually need help with.
This is the move for day one, when the habit feels awkward because nothing feels AI-shaped yet. Let it ask you questions instead of guessing.
The habit in one line
One real question today: [whatever is actually true right now, a task, a decision, a thing you've been avoiding]. Help me with just this one thing.
Save this one. It's the whole habit compressed into a single line, use it on any day you can't think of anything else.
Why one question a day actually works
Skip the course
You don't need to learn AI before you start. You need one real thing on your plate and five minutes.
One tool beats a stack
Forty-seven tools at once is exactly why nothing sticks. One tool you already have is enough to build the habit.
Nothing here is permanent
If the app doesn't fit you, switch later. The habit carries over. The app doesn't have to.
